A MAN who drove on Aberystwyth promenade a few days before Christmas while more than four times the legal limit has been jailed by magistrates.

Caven Gwaze, of no fixed abode, appeared before Aberystwyth Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 27 January.

The court heard that Gwaze, 46 was stopped by police on Marine Terrace in Aberystwyth on 22 December driving a Vauxhall Movano van.

Roadside and police station tests showed Gwaze had 143 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - more than four times the legal limit of 35mcgs.

Magistrates said custody was the only option for Gwaze - who the court heard had “no community ties” - due to the “very high reading”.

Gwaze was jailed for 24 weeks and disqualified from driving for 39 months.
