A 37-year-old Dolgellau man has been handed a 17-year sentence for multiple violent rapes against a woman.
Thomas Cato, of no fixed abode, appeared for sentencing at Mold Crown Court on Thursday 22 October.
Cato repeatedly attacked and raped the woman on several occasions over a two-year period, leaving her feeling petrified, the court was told.
He assaulted her by hitting her to her head leaving visible injuries and on one occasion broke her ribs leaving her unable to move due to the pain.
He was jailed for 15 years with an extended period of two years to be served on license.
Cato must also register as a sex offender indefinitely and has been handed a life-time restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim.
He was previously found guilty of five counts of rape following a trial in September.
Cato was currently already serving an 11 year jail term after being convicted of raping a 17-year-old girl in 2023.
Detective Constable Bethany Clarke said: “Thomas Cato has proven himself to be a danger to women by showing no remorse and forcing the woman to re-live her suffering through a trial.
“His horrific actions have been devastating, leaving her feeling isolated and unable to trust easily.
“She has experienced a trauma that no one should ever face, and she has shown extraordinary bravery in coming forward.
“She has no doubt protected other women from further harm, and I hope this outcome provides some measure of reassurance and closure, as she continues her recovery.
“Protecting women and girls from violence continues to be a priority for North Wales Police.
“I would urge anyone who has been a victim of rape to come forward. We will listen support you and fully investigate offences.”
