Two motorists are to stand trial accused of causing death by careless driving, after the death of a well-known councillor.

Lowri Ruth Powell, 43, and Christopher Jones, 40, appeared at Swansea Crown Court today for a plea and trial preparation hearing before Judge Geraint Walters.

They denied causing the death of Llanbadarn councillor Paul James by careless driving on 11 April last year.

Cllr James died on the A487 near Comins Coch while out on his bike training for a charity cycle ride.

Powell, of Maes yr Efail, Penrhyncoch, was driving a Ford Galaxy and Jones, of Tynycae, Devil’s Bridge, was driving a Vauxhall Vectra.

Judge Walters set 1 September as the beginning of a four-day trial.

Both defendants were granted bail until the trial.
