A GWYNEDD Council bin lorry crashed into the side of a restaurant in Porthmadog on Friday morning – leaving it “unsafe” and forcing the closure of the business for the day.

Yr Wylan owner Justin Roberts hit out at the council saying he had continually warned the authority that it was an “accident waiting to happen” due to illegally-parked cars.

The waste collection vehicle damaged the gable end of the restaurant on Smith Street at around 7am on Friday, 20 January.

It is believed the bin lorry had attempted to manoeuvre around a car parked on double yellow lines on the opposite side of the narrow street.

Council workers and police attended the scene and the road was shut while structural engineers were awaited to assess the scale of the damage.

The incident forced the closure of the restaurant for the day, but police confirmed that no injuries were reported following the incident.

Mr Roberts lives above the restaurant in a flat with his partner and two children.

He said the building was left “unsafe” following the smash and that he had written to Gwynedd Council several times to tell them that cars parking on double yellow lines made access for lorries difficult and that it was an “accident waiting to happen”.
