Dolgellau cricket club ground staff have had to ‘spring’ into action, cutting the pitch no less than a month earlier than normal.
The grass had grown at an unprecedented rate last week with, not only the outfield but, also the square, getting a good ‘haircut’.
Groundsman Phil Leeds was on the Marian mid-week trying to keep up with the unprecedented growth due to a very mild late February.
Phil said: “As long as I have been cutting the ground I have never seen so much growth this early on. We have had to start now as the grass would be far to long if we left it another month. Leaving it to grow would cause a lot of problems in March and April.”
Dolgellau’s first game of the season is on 27 April away to Llay with the seconds away to Rhewl.
The first team do not play at home until 6 May.
