A CHARITY darts match has raised hundreds of pounds to help those battling cancer.
The event, organised by Llannor man David Williams, saw the Pwllheli Darts League square off against the Llyn Darts League, all in the name of a very worthy cause. The darts bonanza raised £222 for Macmillan Cancer after David decided against holding a coffee morning, the typical format for a Macmillan fund-raiser.
“It was a good night, enjoyed by everyone,” David told the Cambrian News.
“I’ve been playing darts for years now and one of the best darts players I’ve ever seen was a bloke who’s not been able to play for a while because he’s had some complications with cancer. I don’t have specific details but I know it’s been a hard road for him.
“We thought we’d do something a bit different to try and help out. It’s a big thing for me because I lost one of my best mates to cancer nine years ago.”
The event, which took place in Ty Newydd in Sarn, drew a sizable crowd, with many of the attendees paying the donation fee twice to help boost funds.
“We won 8-6,” said David, with a smile. “Not that it matters of course, just thought I’d mention!”
