CALLS are being made for the Welsh Government to clean up roundabouts near Tremadog which are blighted by dead trees.

Cllr Dafydd Thomas, of Penmorfa, says he is disgusted to see that a number of trees had been left to rot on a roundabout near the entrance to Tremadog.

The Dolbenmaen community councillor is now calling for the Welsh Government, which is responsible for the Porthmadog bypass, to tidy up the area which he claims has now become an “eyesore”.

He said: “Whilst I was out walking near the Ysgol y Gorlan roundabout I noticed the trees, which were planted there when the bypass was nearly finished, have now mainly died or been blown over by the wind and are rotting away.

“I’m really disappointed to see this, as well as the trees on either side of the junction into Tremadog where more have died.

“The same has happened on the roundabout near Bodawen Care Home, there only seems to be two trees left on that and the others have died with only their stumps left.

“With all these cuts that are being made and that Gwynedd Council are imposing on us it seems that this is the way things are going and will keep going until the future.

“Why does the Welsh Government which is responsible for this road not look into matters like this?

“It has become an eyesore and it really is a shame to see how untidy it is making the area look.

“I don’t understand how people can go past and say nothing, it seems like no-one cares anymore.”

A Welsh Government spokesperson said: “We are aware of the situation and are currently working with the contractor responsible for the site to resolve the matter.”
