A COLLABORATION between politicians and local business has seen a new play park built in Minffordd.

In a joint venture between Penrhyndeudraeth Town Council, Minffordd Improvement Society, Gwynedd Council and Portmeirion, the Minffordd playground near Penrhyndeudraeth was opened over the weekend.

Local county councillor, Gareth Thomas said: “The lack of a playing field and car park has been a problem at Minffordd near Penrhyndeudraeth for some time. Following discussions with Gwynedd Council, improvements were made to the access road near Portmeirion.

"This meant that Portmeirion was kindly able to release a piece of land in the village on lease to Penrhyndeudraeth Town Council, whilst at the same time creating an on-site car park.

“Having held a meeting at the village with local families last year to see what resources they were eager to see in the village, Penrhyndeudraeth Town Council and the Minffordd Improvement Society worked jointly to begin the task of preparing the land and the groundworks ready to provide the children’s play equipment.

“We are grateful to the National Grid for their contribution of £10,000 towards the project to pay for the play equipment and to the town council for financing the infrastructure around the playground. The day-to-day running of the site will also be the responsibility of the town council. The remainder of the funds has come directly from the Minffordd Improvement Society, evidence of all their hard work locally and its glorious efforts.”

Villagers and the children attended the park during the weekend, to test the new equipment and see the new facilities for themselves. The new playground was highly praised.

This is the first phase of the playground development, with fundraising continuing so further investment can be made to the play area to expand the provision available to the children and young people of the village.
