The nominees have been announced for the 28th British Academy Cymru Awards and the work of Aberdaron’s Delyth Wyn Jones has made it on to the prestigious list.

The former Ysgol Botwnnog pupil and producer for Tinopolis has been nominated in the Single Documentary category for Drych: Chdi, Fi ac IVF, a moving account of Welsh singer and TV presenter Elin Fflur and her husband Jason’s journey to try to conceive a baby.

The winners of the Welsh BAFTA’s will be announced at a glittering ceremony in Cardiff on Sunday, 13 October, and Delyth is looking forward to the ceremony, but said the occasion will be “bittersweet”.

“Chdi, Fi ac IVF was an episode which aired as part of the Drych series,” Delyth explained.

“I work with Elin on Heno and we’re friends as well as colleagues.

“She and Jason allowed us to follow them on their IVF journey and when we originally finished filming they had a positive pregnancy test, but unfortunately they lost the baby. They wanted to show everyone what IVF is like and they allowed us to film a different ending which was obviously very sad.

“Of course, the BAFTA nomination is amazing, and Elin is thrilled for us, but because of how the documentary ends the awards ceremony will be bittersweet.”

Elin and Jason will join Delyth for the red carpet event but, unfortunately, Delyth’s colleague Rhys Edwards is unable to join them.

“Rhys filmed, directed and edited the documentary so it’s a real shame he can’t be there, but he is working on another project,” Delyth explained.“Because of the nature of the programme it was very intimate, and it was often just the four of us filming.”

Delyth, 40, added: “The reaction Elin has had since filming the documentary is amazing. People have shared their IVF story with her, and others say she has inspired them, which is great.

“And this nomination has given the documentary a new life. Sometimes single shows like this get seen once and disappear.”
