COUNCILLORS in Machynlleth are to demand the return of fortnightly bulk waste collection in the town.
Town councillors, meeting for the first time since the local elections, voted to write to the new leader of the county council, Rosemary Harris, calling for the return of a bulky waste recycling service to Machynlleth.
The calls come after the previous county council’s controversial decision to withdraw Machynlleth’s weekend bulky waste collection service, which operated from the Maengwyn Street car park, last August following its introduction to minimise the effect of the closure of Potters Yard in January 2015.
Cllr Michael Williams said: “I have no further details as for anything positive. Just to say that the portfolio holders have now been appointed.
“I will do as much as I can to bring back at least the fortnightly bulky waste collection service to Machynlleth.
“We should send a letter from this council to Rosemarie Harris, urging that this matter be looked upon again for the sake of the people of Machynlleth and the Dyfi Valley, who feel absolutely let down — and that’s the mildest term I can use.
“I find it quite appalling that Machynlleth and Dyfi Valley people have lost the means of ridding themselves of bulky waste readily, and either have to pay £25 to have the items taken, or have to take them to Newtown.”
