Madam,
Everyone is aware that the NHS is creaking under the immense pressure on it, particularly in recent years. However, most reasonable people understand that the various sectors within the NHS are doing marvellous work in coping with the difficult situations. With this in mind it is important that we all appreciate the efforts and sacrifices of the staff involved at all levels.
It was therefore disappointing to see comments made by Liz Saville Roberts MP where she was critical of the Welsh Ambulance Service over the time they took to respond to a very serious road accident on the road between Pwllheli and Nefyn.
Her criticisms were despite the difficulties posed by the scene being in a heavily wooded area, plus the presence of electricity cables, also the mist being very thick, which made landing the rescue helicopter hazardous.
As a matter of fact the helicopter had to land four miles away which meant ferrying the most seriously injured victim by road to the helicopter.
Despite these obstacles, the helicopter was in the air with the patient shortly after 6pm - with the actual accident happening at around 5pm.
With regards to the other two victims involved in the accident, two ambulances were dispatched to the scene as soon as was feasible.
Taking into account that the accident was so serious that the fire service was involved in cutting one of the victims free from his vehicle, the operation was very professional.
It seems to be the case nowadays that many career politicians don’t miss an opportunity to leap on the bandwagon.
Maybe in such cases as this one it would be wise to consider the prevailing circumstances before rushing to conclusions which are helpful to no one.
Yours etc,
Cllr Owain Williams, Llais Gwynedd, Pistyll.
