Madam,
I read with interest the saga of the ‘rumoured’ £300,000 overspend on the Aberystwyth bandstand.
The reasons the council gives for refusing the Freedom of Information request from the Cambrian News seem a bit thin, to say the least. Cllr Alun Williams may be of the opinion that the exemptions applied (section 41 and section 43) should by maintained. I am sure that many ratepayers in Ceredigion do not share his opinion.
What exactly is “commercially sensitive”? For all intents and purposes, it is only a posh and empty shed on a seafront! Again, what information was given to the council in confidence? Why did Ceredigion council sign a confidentiality clause? What’s that all about? I hope the Cambrian News persists with their inquiries.
As we approach the local elections, we must ask our councillors seeking re-election for answers to this ‘rumoured’ overspend of ratepayers’ money. I for one will be sticking to this like a tick to a hound!
Yours etc,
Chris Samuel, William Street, Aberystwyth.
