Dinah Jones wrote in asking about families with dark secrets in their past generations (‘Does your family have a dark secret?’).

Unfortunately when researching my father’s history, I discovered that his great-uncle had committed a double murder of his wife and son, which shocked the genteel town of Cheltenham to the core.

Perhaps Dinah would be interested in this story which is further interesting in that a petition was organised to stop him from being hanged and was successful!
