THE sisters of a woman killed by her jealous husband near Machynlleth last year have raised more than £1,000 for a local domestic abuse charity.

Sharron Rogers and Cheryl O’nions raised the money by running the Asda Foundation Leeds 10k in memory of their late sister, Tracy Cockrell, who was found dead alongside her partner Nigel McGrath at a remote farmhouse in Llanwrin, last April.

In December, an inquest found that grandmother-of-seven Miss Cockrell, 51, was killed by 45-year-old Mr McGrath after he accused her of having an affair following their move to the area from Yorkshire just four months earlier, before taking his own life.

The inquest heard that McGrath had become “jealous and controlling” towards Miss Cockrell, who worked at the Cartref Dyfi Bupa care home in Machynlleth and had told her friends that McGrath was a “bully”.

Joined by their mother, Janet Lancaster, Sharron and Cheryl have handed over £1,115.25 to the Montgomeryshire Family Crisis Centre, the specialist domestic abuse service covering north Powys.

Sharron said: “It was great to see, first hand, the valuable work MFCC carry out, including meeting some of the survivors they support and seeing how the money raised will impact on their recovery.

“Tracy was a kind, caring person and would have been proud that the money raised was going to help people experiencing domestic abuse.”
