A public consultation on a new area school for the Aeron Valley will be launched next month.
Ceredigion County Council hopes to use Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools funding to build one school in place of four smaller ones.
Council leader Cllr Ellen ap Gwynn highlighted the "good news" that the capital grant rates for the school building scheme had improved, with the council now only needing to provide 35 per cent of the cost, rather than 50 per cent.
Plans to change school provision in the Aberaeron district began in 2016 following a review, with further discussion resulting in plans to develop a new area school on a central site for the pupils of Ciliau Parc, Cilcennin, Dihewyd and Felinfach.
Ysgol Cilcennin is already earmarked for closure and a bid to delay the process before Christmas failed.
At last month’s learning communities overview and scrutiny committee, councillors supported the proposal and its recommendation to commence the consultation process – a move rubber-stamped by Cabinet members last week.
