DWYFOR and Meirionnydd’s AM was left “very impressed” after visiting an education centre in Rhydymain.
In one of his first acts following his re-election, Dafydd Elis-Thomas praised the achievements of Aran Hall School.
The residential school caters for children and young people from across Wales and England with development disorders and currently has 14 students and employ 84 members of staff.
During the visit Lord Elis-Thomas AM met with Duncan Pritchard, headteacher of the school, to discuss a range of issues and to learn more about the pioneering work undertaken by staff at the site.
Lord Elis-Thomas AM was also given a tour of the school and met many of the young people who are students at the school.
They exhibited some of their work to him and demonstrated their learning achievements, including culinary and gardening skills.
Following his visit, Lord Elis-Thomas said: “I was very impressed by the hard work of staff at Aran Hall today, under the leadership of Duncan Pritchard.
“The students, many of whom have experienced some considerable challenges in the past, are clearly benefiting from the education and life skills learned here.
“It was great to chat to them and discuss their life here in Aran Hall.”
