Police are investigating after a Penglais School pupil needed stitches following an alleged punch from another student.

Concerned mother Josey Morris is accusing the school of failing to take bullying seriously, claiming no action was taken against a pupil who “assaulted her son” leaving him with an eye injury.

Mrs Morris, of Bow Street, said she had taken her son, Conner Bailey, who is in Year 8, out of the school and said he would not be returning.

She told the Cambrian News he needed stitches to a cut on his eyelid after he was punched in an incident on Thursday, 12 September.

She says school authorities are failing to take action over increasing violence and bullying.

Mrs Morris said: “My son was attacked in school. They told me it was a little cut, but when they dropped him off at home he had to go to hospital for stitches on his eyelid.

“Another pupil had run up to him and punched him in the eye, breaking his glasses.

“The school took no disciplinary action against the pupil who had assaulted my son. The police are dealing with it now.

A spokesperson for Ceredigion County Council said: “The council is unable to comment on cases regarding individual pupils.

“Bullying and violent behaviour will not be tolerated and the council is committed to working closely with all schools to ensure that any issues are dealt with as soon as possible."
