WORK to provide a new building and renovations at Tregaron’s Ysgol Henry Richard for three to 16-year-olds has been delayed after a “technical issue” with the original successful tenderer.
While the delay is not expected to affect the anticipated opening date of the primary school building in September 2018 or the secondary school side in Easter 2019, council leader Ellen ap Gwynn said she was “disappointed” that a problem with the tender meant the process had to start again.
The development of the existing school building includes building a new primary school building for three to 11-year-olds, as well renovation of the current gym and refurbishment of the ‘Welsh Wing’ in the current secondary school.
But after initially receiving tenders in January of this year, the council’s education department has admitted that an error has put the process back despite funding, including £2.5m from the Welsh Government, being available.
Resource manager Nia James said: “Due to a technical issue with the initial tender process, it is necessary to undergo a new tender process.”
