NEW QUAY primary schoolchildren have produced their own cookbook to raise funds for the school – complete with a recipe from HRH the Prince of Wales!

Responding to an approach from Megan Walton, chair of Ysgol Cei Newydd PTA, Prince Charles wrote back saying he would be delighted to provide a favourite recipe.

The heir to the throne chose bread and butter pudding using bara brith.

“We now have a fabulous royal recipe and covering letter included in our cookbook,” said Megan.

The school’s new PTA chair, who took over in September, explained: “Bored of the usual fetes and jumble sales, I wanted my first fundraising idea to be different and came up with the idea of producing a community cookbook that each child from the school would contribute to.

“I felt it was very important for the children to be involved in the fundraising that will ultimately benefit them, so they can learn that you have to put effort in to get something in return.

“I also believed they would enjoy seeing their very own work in full colour print, enabling them to have a sense of ownership of something physical they have helped to produce.”

Each child has provided a colourful hand-drawn picture to accompany their recipe.
