A Tregaron mum is appealing for help to raise £5,000 for a sensory room for her autistic son, after she claimed he had to leave a special educational needs class.
Suzanne Burgess said seven-year-old Finn attended the Enfys room at Penparcau’s Ysgol Llwyn yr Eos for a year and a half, but has been at home since the end of July.
This has left Suzanne and her partner Ariel who are from Tregaron, “struggling” to provide both care and education for Finn at home, and Suzanne said they felt “let down” by Ceredigion County Council, and accused education chiefs of “failing” her son.
Suzanne has now launched a fundraising appeal and hopes to raise £5,000 to provide a therapy unit for Finn at their home.
The family is also continuing to talk with the local education authority.
“I am stuck in a lengthy process of applying for a statement of special educational needs for Finn,” Suzanne said.
“The LEA said that ‘Finn is not in a place to access education at the moment’. I think this is discrimination.”

A spokesperson for Ceredigion County Council said: “The local authority does not comment on individual cases.”
