YOUNGSTERS from secondary schools in Machynlleth and Llanidloes have been honoured after scooping prizes in the Montgomeryshire Society Awards.

Sian Jones, a patron of the society, presented prizes to pupils who won first or second place or were highly commended in a range of categories.

The competition sees pupils provide work in categories including art, and essays in English and Welsh.

Sixteen youngsters at Ysgol Bro Hyddgen and Llanidloes High School scooped prizes or were highly commended in different groups in the three categories.

In the Clement Davis Art prizes, Addie Whitworth, of Llanidloes High School, was highly commended. In the Group B category, Ysgol Bro Hyddgen pupils Myfanwy Fenwick won top prize, with Bethany Davies, from Llanidloes High School, taking second place. Four Llanidloes pupils - Joanne Gethin, Nell Deakin and Evan Edmunds and Lora Gethin - were all highly commended.

In the Group C section, Llanidloes pupil Asha Morgan won with fellow Llanidloes pupil Nyeri Flanagan coming second.
