A five-year-old girl from Talybont has braved the chop for Little Princess Trust, in memory of her grandfather.
Ellen Lilly Davies cut off her hair to be donated to Little Princess Trust but has also managed to raise £625 for the charity, which provides free, real-hair wigs for young cancer sufferers or for children and young people, up to 24 years of age, experiencing the devastating effects of hair loss.
Ellen’s mother, Ffion Southgate, said: “Ellen absolutely loves her new haircut.
“There was no hesitation when the hairdresser asked her if she was ready. Myself and Ellen’s father are so proud of her and the amount that she’s raised.”
Ffion told the Cambrian News, in April, Ellen decided to cut off her hair in memory of her grandfather, Stevan Southgate, who sadly died from cancer in 2004, when Ffion was just 14 years old.
While Ellen never met her grandfather, Ffion said she “often asks about Dadcu Stevan”.
“She has always been very interested in how he got sick and we always try and tackle her ‘why’ questions,” Ffion said.
Since the launch in 2006, Little Princess Trust has supplied over 8,000 wigs to young people and have invested circa £5 million in “ground-breaking” research.
