A charity fundraiser has trekked through Ceredigion, Gwynedd and Pembrokeshire as she continues her walk around the British coast.

Beth Wickes, who is from Stourbridge in the Midlands, started the gruelling challenge in October last year, but has now walked through Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Gwynedd, visiting RNLI lifeboat stations along the way and aiming to visit every station in Britain.

Beth launched the challenge after deciding she wanted to “explore Britain” and thought it would be an opportunity to raise money for the RNLI, Association of Lowland Search and Rescue and Mountain Rescue England and Wales.

The walk around the coast is expected to take around three years in total with Beth, a recent human nutrition graduate, giving up her house and putting her belongings in storage while she completes the challenge.

After completing over 1,500 miles of the challenge so far, Beth said she had been amazed by the support and help she had received from the public.

She said: “It’s been wonderful seeing parts of the country I’ve never been to before and looking back and seeing my progress.

“Physically, on the whole, I’m finding it okay, probably because I’m pacing myself , not overdoing the mileage and making sure I have a rest day every fourth day.

“However, mentally it’s far more challenging. I underestimated how much admin work is involved in a journey like this and how exhausting it is trying to do it without a support team.

“That’s in addition to the mental strain of constantly moving ‘home’ and complications around not having a fixed address such as accessing products and healthcare.

“People have been so kind by, for example, offering me their spare rooms, food, clothes washing facilities and transport for me and my rucksack.

“The kindness of strangers is alive and well all around us.”

While Beth is still going strong, she said the experience had changed her expectations.

She said: “Before I started I had this romantic idea that I’d explore the areas I arrive in, but this hasn’t been the case at all.

“What I’ve found is that after I’ve walked for hours the last thing I want to do is walk any more, especially on the days when I’m carrying almost 15kg.”

During her walk, Beth has travelled through Fishguard, St Davids, Cardigan, New Quay, Aberaeron, Aberystwyth, Borth, Tywyn, Fairbourne, Llandanwg, Penrhyndeudraeth and Criccieth.

Beth is marking her progress on her website at bethfootforward.co.uk, and after reaching more than half of her fundraising target of £2,000, anyone who would like to donate can do so at www.gofundme.com/charity-coastal-walk-around-britain
