TWO mountain biking brothers have taken on a sponsored descent of Snowdon.

On Monday, 15 October, Nathan and Ruben Devaux from Corris completed the daredevil descent via the Llanberis Path.

The keen young mountain bikers - Ruben is eight and Nathan is nine - chose two charities to support: the Children’s Wales Air Ambulance and Mid-Wales Refugee Action.

The pair visited the now-dismantled refugee camp in Calais in December 2015, so they wanted to raise funds to support refugees. Mid-Wales Refugee Action is a grassroots group which takes aid to Northern France and the French-Italian border as well as supporting refugee families in the local area.

Nathan and Ruben, who have been sponsored by local businesses, set off very early on Monday morning and started heading up Yr Wyddfa around 8.30am with their coaches Ant Taylor and Steve Beech, and photographer Lee Anthony Bell.

After riding and pushing their bikes all the way up, the group reached the summit around 1pm. It was a beautiful sunny and clear day which meant they could enjoy 360-degree views from Anglesey to the Dyfi Estuary whilst eating lunch in Hafod Eryri.

Just before 2pm the boys headed back down the Llanberis Path.

Ruben was jubilant following his successful descent.

He said: “It was gnarly and hard but great fun. I’d do it again soon if I could.”

Nathan added: “I’ve wanted to do it for ages, now I’ve realised my dream. It was epic!”

It was expected that the brothers would have to walk certain steep and technical sections but Nathan managed to ride the whole way down and Ruben only had to get off his bike to get past two boulders which were bigger than his wheels.

The dynamic duo would be very grateful for any donations to their chosen causes having already raised £500.
