JOIN rangers at Welsh Water’s Elan Valley for their big Dam Open Day. The day will give visitors an exclusive adventure into Pen y Garreg Dam and up to the central tower, allowing them to dive into the history of the engineering that made Elan

Elan’s dam is unusual in that it houses an access tunnel to the central tower which is lit by windows on the downstream wall of the dam. Whilst in the central tower, visitors will be able to enjoy a unique view of the dam and also look at photographs of the dam’s construction and learn about the charity WaterAid.

Visitors wanting to take part in the open day on 28 October should park at Penbont car park (Grid reference SN916674) and walk up through the woodland, taking the steps to the dam entrance.

There are steps inside the dam which may be wet and in some areas there are low light levels. Children should be carefully supervised at all times.

The dam will be open between 1pm and 4pm. There is an entry fee of £1 per person. All proceeds will go to the charity WaterAid.
