A COMMUNITY effort to raise money for charity by organising a camping weekend for families has raised £3,000.
The Continuum event in Ynyslas featured a feast of family focused activities including bands, poets, singers, DJs, talks and creative play, with children’s performances being integral to the overall programming.
Elements like the opening performance by Côr y Gors choir and the scarecrow display by Borth Arts really captured Continuum’s community ethos.
Borth Arts, Aberaid, Refugee Community Kitchen (RCK) and Foundations were the chosen causes, with a representative from each of these inspiring projects doing a talk at Continuum.
The Borth Arts team, headed by Lynne Dickens, champion local artists, organise exhibitions and develops skills.
The Aberaid team, headed by Lindsay Gaunt, helps refugee families in Ceredigion.
The RCK team, founded by Steve Bedlam, provides nutritious food for homeless people and refugees.
Foundations is a dance music project headed by Joe Nebula.
A Continuum spokesperson said: “One of our main aims was to show how we can all encourage community participation and, relative to our circumstances, all be culturally creative in some way.
“Everyone at Continuum 2018 had a VIP wristband which stood for ‘Voluntary Inspirational People’.
“All the acts, speakers, performers, volunteers, staff and organisers who collectively created this event were all linked in some intergenerational way to mid Wales.
“It has been humbling to receive so much positive support with many neighbours and regional residents attending and participating.”
