A CHILDREN’S party organised by Harlech Community Council proved popular, after what has been a difficult 15 months.

Lockdown has been difficult for everyone, the council told the Cambrian News, and as restrictions eased, they wanted to organise a family fun day on the King George V Playing Field.

Inspired by the Jo Cox Foundation, set up by relatives of the MP to bring communities together, the party did just that when it went ahead on Sunday, 27 June.

It attracted over 200 visitors who heard stories written by local school children and listened to harp and cornet music from Harlech Silver Band.

A spokesperson for the community council said afterwards: “Due to coronavirus restrictions this has been the first occasion in over 15 months our community has been able to come together.

“We had a wonderful relaxing afternoon celebrating our local culture and were blessed with fine weather.

“The event was free and included face painting, balloon modelling and the opportunity to visit Benji and his owls who kept a very sharp eye on proceedings.

“Local voluntary groups set up stalls as this was the first occasion in well over a year to raise funds for the great work they do in our community.

“We also listened to talks by organisations including Natural Resources Wales ad Network Rail.”

The spokesperson added: “We were also entertained by Erwyd the Conwy Jester whose ability to balance six brooms was an asset when cleaning away afterwards.”
