A SCHEME which saw visitors, local and police ‘banding together’ to safeguard children has been hailed a success.
Over the summer holidays Barmouth Safer Neighbourhood Team ran a family safety project on the beach and surrounding area.
Community support officers Dai Hughes, Elliw Williams and Sian Davies handed out high visibility wristbands at the beach for free in order to help families stay together.
Phone numbers are written on the band and if someone gets lost they enter a store displaying a Barmouth Child Safe Scheme poster and the staff will phone the parent or guardian’s phone number.
CSO Elliw Williams, who ran the project, said: “General feedback from families has been good, with many saying what a good idea it is.
“Hopefully we will be able to do something similar next year. If all goes accordingly, Next year’s bands will include our branding, and available in the Eisteddfod.”
While patrolling the beachfront, the team took some photos and comments from families who took part in the scheme.
The Rosenburg family, from Manchester, said: “Fabulous scheme keeping our children safe, what could be more important! Thank you for your efforts.”
