A group of Dolgellau students have scooped gold at a national competition.

The students from Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor in Dolgellau travelled to Cardiff earlier this month to take part in a Skills Wales Enterprise competition at the Senedd.

They represented the whole of Grwp Llandrillo Menai at the competition.

The team consisted of Lennon Roper and Kerry Morris from Barmouth, Lois Owen from Harlech, and Erin Roberts and Callum Tugman from Dolgellau. All the students are in their second year of studying a BTEC National Diploma in business and they have all received conditional offers to attend universities in September this year.

Kerry said: “I loved the experience, I feel it has really helped to build my confidence. We went there to win so I’m so glad we did!”

In order to enter the competition they had to complete a business plan, a marketing plan and a cash-flow forecast two weeks prior to the event.

A panel of six entrepreneurs, from all over Wales, assessed these documents and awarded grades before the final in Cardiff.

Lois added: “I really enjoyed the experience; it is something I will always remember.

“This was the first time I had been to the Senedd. It was a fantastic feeling to win the competition and is something positive I can put on my CV.”

The brief was to recycle an everyday plastic item into a product, or create a business venture from the use of these recycled products.
