Welsh ministers have approved £300,000 in support of a major project aiming to improve the health of the River Teifi.
The funding was confirmed in a ministerial decision report published on Thursday, 29 October, which states that the Cabinet Minister for Rural Resilience and Sustainability has agreed to support the Teifi Fyw Demonstrator Programme.
The programme brings together more than 20 organisations working across the river's catchment, which stretches through parts of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire.
It seeks to tackle water-quality problems and restore damaged habitats, while giving communities a greater say in the river's future. Cambrian News reported on extensive sewage investigations which recorded 27,661 hours of storm-overflow discharges across the Teifi catchment in 2025.
The programme is coordinated by Natural Resources Wales (NRW) and includes partners such as Ceredigion County Council, the West Wales Rivers Trust, the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales, Strata Florida Trust and the Mining Remediation Authority.
In May, the linked Teifi Fyw: Living Teifi, People and Nature Together initiative received more than £1.4 million from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to begin a two-year development phase.
That phase will combine scientific research with local experiences and knowledge of the river's cultural history, including traditional farming and fishing.
Plans also include community involvement in environmental monitoring, alongside training and green-skills opportunities for residents, landowners and land managers.
The partnership hopes the work will provide the foundation for a five-year delivery programme potentially worth more than £10 million, although that remains dependent on further funding.
Jon Goldsworthy, head of strategic projects at NRW, previously said the initiative reflected the scale of cooperation needed to make lasting improvements to the Teifi.
The Welsh Government's latest decision provides no breakdown of how the £300,000 will be spent and does not establish whether it is separate from funding already announced for the partnership.
