A PENRHYNCOCH father and his model daughter are finalising their preparations before taking on a 300-mile cycling charity fundraiser through France and Belgium.
Neil Davies and his daughter Jessica will be setting off for the Big Battlefield Bike Ride on 10 June with a fundraising target of £6,000 for the Help for Heroes charity, having already raised over £4,100.
The ride, which begins on 11 June, will see Neil and Jessica, a former Ysgol Penglais pupil who now lives in Cardiff, ride from the Glade of the Armistice, through the Somme battlefields and finishing at the Saint Symphorien Military Cemetery in Belgium at a special ceremony on 16 June.
Neil and Jessica have been busy training as the start date looms with Jessica saying the pair were delighted with the support they had received in their fundraising efforts.
She said: “The bike ride is only a couple of weeks away, with us leaving on 10 June for France.
“Our training has been going great, but not without a few bumps along the way - quite literally - I crashed just last week, but thankfully came out with just some sore grazes and a bruised ego.
“We’re doing great on our fundraising target and have hit over the £4,000 mark, thanks to a great boost from the wonderful customers at Morrisons in Aberystwyth on 11 March where we raised nearly £700 for Help for Heroes thanks to their generous donations.
“Also a special mention to the ladies of Penrhyncoch WI who so kindly sponsored us after my dad visited them to give a talk the other week."
