LAMPETER Town Council is stepping up its fight to buy the Maes y Deri playing field.
The council has previously said it would be interested in purchasing the parcel of land from Ceredigion Council. But no agreement has ever been reached.
The land is included in the county council’s Local Development Plan but no planning application has ever been made.
Cllr Elsie Dafis said she wanted the town council to contact Ceredigion Council again to say that the town council is keen to buy the field.
She said this would end any prospect of it being built on as there are concerns over potential flooding problems and the loss of a green area.
She said: “I think the field shouldn’t be built on at all. In Lampeter we should think about building around the edge of the town and not in the centre where there is flooding.”
