ONE man and his dog who are on a five-year mission to clean up the entire UK coastline has spoken of his disappointment at the state of some of Meirionnydd’s coastal path.

Wayne Dixon, and his canine pal Koda, are walking around the UK to raise awareness and money for three important causes as he passes through Wales this Spring.

Throughout his trek, the 45-year-old is raising money for the mental health charity Mind, Northern Inuit Society and Keep Britain Tidy.

Speaking on the problem of litter, Wayne said: “There’s an epidemic facing the country.

“People seem to not give a second thought about throwing things out of their car window. It’s not such a problem on the beaches or footpaths but there are plenty of grot spots in the lay-bys next to main roads.

“The road between Penmaenpool and Barmouth was one of the worst I’ve encountered for a while, such a shame in such a lovely bit of the country.

“The people around here have been fantastic though, I’ve had people walking with me, helping me litterpick, putting me and Koda up for the night - it’s been a real pleasure.

“With the cutbacks that all local councils are facing the problem of litter is going to get worse before it gets better, we all have to do our bit. If you see a bit of litter, take responsibility even if its nothing to do with you, if everyone does just a little bit, then we can make everywhere as lovely as Meirionnydd.”
