THE BELEAGUERED manager of a Ceredigion football team fighting for survival has issued a remarkable invitation to local vandals to lace up their boots and help guarantee the club’s future.

Last month it was revealed that the future of Costcutter Ceredigion League Division Two outfit New Quay FC was again hanging by a thread due to a lack of players.

The Seasiders, who have been struggling to field a senior side for the past two seasons, found themselves once again forced to put out an urgent SOS on social media.

The news followed an appeal to local residents by manager Charles Lloyd Harvey to help the club combat an upsurge in antisocial behaviour around their Parc Arthur headquarters.

On Wednesday it appeared that his plea had fallen on deaf ears – but rather than condemn the youngsters responsible, Mr Lloyd Harvey has thrown down the gauntlet to the culprits by inviting them to join the club.

“Two black bags worth of litter and some poorly-scribbled obscenities graffitied onto the changing room wall,” he tweeted.

“That’s what greeted us when we arrived at Parc Arthur for football training this evening.

“We have an antisocial behaviour problem in our village that needs addressing urgently.

“Occurrences like this are happening far more often and it appears to be the same group involved each time.

“If you know your children regularly frequent this area please ask them to refrain from littering and graffiti-ing.

“It’s hard enough trying to keep the football team going without having to spend an hour scrubbing the walls and picking up all the rubbish afterwards.

“On that note, if your kids are struggling for things to do, they are more than welcome to come along to training and join in with us – they’d be warmly welcomed.”
