PEOPLE IN Gwynedd can visit two of its most historic sites this weekend for free as part of Cadw’s Open Doors weekend.
Harlech Castle and Criccieth Castle are just two of the iconic landmarks across Wales taking part in the initiative, which offers both locals and visitors to Wales the chance to explore the country’s rich culture and history.
Over the final weekend of September (29 and 30), the people of Wales and beyond can visit their favourite Cadw site for free – thanks to the Open Doors campaign.
Funded and organised by Cadw, the annual festival celebrates Wales’ unique history and offers free access to more than 300 heritage properties through the month of September.
With no booking required, visitors to Harlech Castle and Criccieth Castle this weekend will be granted free entry.
Open Doors has already delighted thousands of visitors this September, with free entry and a range of special events and activities offered at unusual heritage properties across Wales.
Cadw’s free weekend, complemented by a programme of expert guided tours, will mark the end of the festival – with visitors invited to explore an abundance of historic secrets.
Minister for culture, tourism and sport, Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas, said: “Cadw is committed to making Wales’ heritage accessible to everyone and Open Doors is a brilliant way to showcase our iconic heritage sites, but also our hidden, and perhaps less obvious, historic gems.
“With such a rich blend of historic landmarks on our doorstep, it really is fantastic to see so many people making the most of the month-long festival and enjoying the wealth of heritage that the country has to offer.
“And what better way to mark the end of the celebrations than by opening the doors to our much-loved Cadw sites during the last weekend of September – with free entry available to all."
