Fundraisers have completed a 70-mile challenge to pay tribute to Aberystwyth Town FC legend David Williams and beaten their fundraising target.

Margery Williams, the widow of Mr Williams, who was known as Dias, along with her sons Owain and Sion and supporters, completed the fundraising challenge by walking 70 miles over four days, visiting clubs that Dias had played for, including Aberystwyth Town FC and Pontrhydfendigaid.

Dias, who has a stand named after him at Aberystwyth Town’s Park Avenue ground, was one of the greatest players in the club’s history, but sadly passed away in November 1988 after battling cancer.

Mrs Williams and her family wanted to do something to mark what would have been Dias’s 70th birthday on 11 March and decided on the walk to commemorate the occasion as well as raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, setting a fundraising target of £3,000.

Just days after completing the walk the fundraisers have beaten that target with around £3,500 raised.
