AN annual funfair that visits Ceredigion every November won’t go ahead this year, organisers have confirmed.
Vernon Studt who runs Studt Funfair told the Cambrian News that sadly, due to coronavirus, the fair will not be visiting Cardigan, Aberaeron, Lampeter and Aberystwyth this year
The decision comes after Ceredigion County Council told the organisers it was unable to allow, support or facilitate the winter fairs.
Mr Studt said: “Although it is a shame, people’s health comes first and I thoroughly agree with Ceredigion Council’s decision.
“We have a very good working relationship with the council and we are hopeful we can return next year.
“I’ve been running the fair for over 40 years since I took over from my father and to my knowledge, this is the first time in our 183 year history that we haven’t been able to visit.
“But, it is better to be safe than sorry.”A spokesperson for Ceredigion County Council said: “Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the related legislation, restrictions and guidance Ceredigion County Council is unable this year to allow, support or facilitate the Winter fairs which would usually take place from early November. “The Winter Fairs (both the fairground and associated on-street market) that have historically taken place at Aberaeron, Aberystwyth, Cardigan and Lampeter, either within Council managed car parks or on the public highway will not therefore take place in 2020. “It is the authority’s opinion that the Winter Fairs as provided would not be lawful under The Health Protection (Coronavirus Restrictions) (Wales) Regulations 2020 (as amended).”
