A YOUNG Llyn mum has transformed her life after taking part in a lottery-funded project which has boosted her confidence.

GISDA ‘Rhieni Ifanc Ni’ was one of the projects in Gwynedd which benefited from £8m from the Big Lottery Fund.

The Bright New Futures funding from the Big Lottery Fund was released in 2013 with an aim to equip young parents across Wales with greater confidence, life skills, and the knowledge they needed to tackle challenges and create a brighter future for them and their children.

One of the young parents benefiting from the project with GISDA was Tanith Williams, from the Pwllheli area.

She said: “I walked into the parent and child class by mistake looking for the nursery class and spoke to the project worker about the project, and following this I ended up staying in the class and went on to fill in paper work to self-refer myself to the project.

“Following further discussion I told them I was a single parent and had only just moved to the area and not knowing the area well, not having family or friends here, I had also moved from a house into a flat and could no longer afford my car, so I had lost all my form of transport.”

At this time Tanith was in a bad place and had been suffering with depression, therefore, support was offered to her in helping her with her flat, with grants and transport to and from places to purchase things for the flat in order for it to feel more like home for her and her son.

The project also paid for gym visits for Tanith to try and build her confidence up, as well as attending a parent and child class every week.

Following this the young mother started to develop an interest in college and was accepted on an access to high education course.

“I am now attending college and enjoying every minute of gaining knowledge as well as friends and I’m currently submitting my application to university to study mental health nursing after being inspired by the support I have received from the project,” she added.
