A fishing contest has raised over £1,300.

The annual Eddie Rigby Memorial fishing contest, which was held in Cardigan Bay near the Borthwen Caravan Park, Llwyngwril, this summer, has netted more than £1,300 in charitable donations.

The money has been donated to Aberdyfi Lifeboat Station.

The competition is held in memory of long time fisherman Eddie Rigby and the challenge is to land the largest number of mackerel.

The fish are also judged on their size and quality, based on Welsh specimen records.

Charlie Bartlett, a former Aberdyfi Lifeboat crewman, judged the catch.

John Mayer, from Nuneaton in Warwickshire, said: “Eddie first started fishing off Borthwen in 1977 and was a huge influence on sea fishing in the area.

“He was always there to give advice on launch and recovery, promoting safe boating.”

John Mayer, who is a regular visitor to South Snowdonia, recently attended Aberdyfi Lifeboat Station where he was greeted by helmsman Wil Stockford.

“An amazing total of over £1300 was raised on the day of the fishing competition.

Wil said: “It’s fantastic to receive such a generous donation in times that are challenging for many people.

“We are really grateful to all those from Borthwen, the home of the Eddie Rigby contest, for their support of the RNLI.”
