A GIANT mural to advertise the return of a hit award-winning TV show based in Aberystwyth has been proposed for the town.

S4C, the original broadcaster of Hinterland/Y Gwyll, wants to immortalise DC Tom Mathias played by Richard Harrington on the side of a property in Pier Street at the top of Great Darkgate Street.

Planning permission has been sought for the massive mural which will cover the gable end of The Art Shop at number five Pier Street.

An application for permission to Ceredigion County Council said the “painted mural on the external, south-facing wall” will “promote the return of Ceredigion-based, bilingual drama, Y Gwyll/Hinterland.”

“The image will be of the main character looking out towards the street, with some of Ceredigion’s famous landscape,” the application added.

“The S4C and Y Gwyll logos will also be present on the mural.”

The application wants the new mural in place from 1 October, and says it will be on the property for two years until the end of October 2018.

If given the go-ahead by planners, the mural will be painted on the wall.

The Art Shop owners have given permission for the mural, the application says.
