Children in a Llyn Peninsula village have been letting their artistic juices flow as they celebrate securing funding for a new park.
This week, local county councillor Sian Wyn Hughes paid tribute to the people of Edern after they secured investment of over £100,000 to create a brand new playground.
Cllr Wyn Hughes said: “There has been a mammoth team effort in the area thanks to a small group of us.
“I’m delighted today to pay tribute to this small community in Llyn as we celebrate nearly £87,000 investment secured from the the National Lottery Community Fund.
"This is in addition to the £17,000 grant funding received by Llyn’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and other smaller grants and contributions by local residents to invest in a brand new playing field.
"It’s a credit to these local residents for all their hard work!”
The news comes amidst youth activity in the area, as local young people turn their hand to designing graffiti murals, thanks to the council’s new youth service.
This is the first time that young people in the Edern area have been able to access the county council’s youth service and the youngsters have been busy, not only designing murals, but also working towards a qualification, an open art qualification.
Graffiti artist Andy Birch from Colwyn Bay has been working with the youngsters.
Perhaps better known as Andy ‘Dime’ Birch, he led the famous Anglesey graffiti work of Gareth Bale which had astounding social media coverage two years ago.
He has also worked on youth projects at Oriel Mostyn, Llandudno and with a number of local authorities creating community murals with young people.
