A PWLLHELI mother, who underwent a kidney transplant which saved her life, hopes to encourage more people to come forward to become living organ donors.

There are currently 191 people in Wales actively waiting for a kidney transplant and the number is continuously growing.

Kidneys are the most commonly donated organ by a living donor and a successful transplant from a living donor is the best treatment for most people with kidney disease.

However, there is not enough donors coming forward.

Kidney transplant patient, Angela Jones, 48, of Pwllheli said donating a kidney to improve or even save the life of someone else is an amazing thing to do.

She said: “I began having problems in pregnancy, then shortly after Leanne was born I found out it was kidney failure.

“For about nine years I controlled my condition with strict diet and tablets.

“Then it deteriorated further, and I had to start on dialysis.

“My health took over my life, with lots of long hospital appointments and eventually becoming a prisoner in my own home.

“In May 2011, the lifesaving call came, and I received a kidney transplant.”

Angela said the transplant has changed her life and without it she would have never been able to go on a dream holiday to America with her daughter.

She added: “Life after the transplant is fantastic."
