A PALLIATIVE care charity is hoping to set up a Dyfi Valley service if it can find enough volunteers.

Requests for a service in the Dyfi Valley have been made after the success of the Hospice at Home Aberystwyth Volunteering service, which was launched in north Ceredigion in 2015 with the future aim of expanding the service further into Ceredigion and the Machynlleth area.

A public meeting will now be held in Machynlleth’s Bowling Club on Tuesday, 25 September, as HAHAV chiefs look to see if they can attract enough volunteers to be able to provide a service in the Dyfi Valley.

The scheme sees volunteers offer support and help to those with end-of-life needs, in conjunction with other organisations and the health service, and can provide help in things like sitting with people to keep them company, shopping, taking people out for a drive or even walking a patient’s dog.

Dr Alan Axford, one of the founders of HAHAV, said: “The meeting will launch the proposed volunteer service to support people suffering from life-limiting illness.

“The aim of the meeting is to create awareness of the project and to enlist as many volunteers as possible.”
