BETSI Cadwaladr university health board has appointed a new director of public health.

Teresa Owen joins BCUHB from Hywel Dda University Health Board where she has held the same post since 2012 working with an enthusiastic multidisciplinary public health directorate and the dedicated partners working to improve rural health across the three counties.

Welsh-speaker Teresa spent a happy childhood in the Conwy Valley before gaining a first class degree in nutrition and dietetics, and is a qualified secondary school teacher.

Teresa’s first post after her initial training was with the former Health Promotion Wales, as a north Wales life educator.

Following this, she was based in Glan Clwyd Hospital for a number of years, while working as a community development dietitian.

In 2008, Teresa qualified as a consultant in public health, before eventually joining NHS Wirral where she became deputy director of public health.

When she does get some spare time, Teresa enjoys walking chunks of the Wales coastal path, and joining BCUHB means that she now gets to come home.
