A VACCINE call centre has been inundated with phone calls after Hywel Dda Health Board announced over 30s could make a short-notice appointment to get their jab.

This lunch time Hywel Dda University Health Board posted on Facebook that people aged over 30 in Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire could phone the vaccine line and book an appointment for today (Monday) or tomorrow due to excess stock at mass vaccination centres.

Shortly after the message was posted, people started complaining that the phone number would cut out and those who managed to get in the queue were later cut off before being able to book an appointment.Shortly after the original post, Hywel Dda Health Board said: “We’re aware that due to high demand all call waiting slots are filled which is not allowing others to join the queue.

“Please bear with us as our team work through call as quickly as possible.Around an hour and a half later, Hywel Dda announced that all the available slots had now been filled, adding: "an online form will be available tomorrow for people aged 30 and over to register for a last minute appointment. "In the meantime if you wish to email covidenquiries[email protected] with your name, date of birth and nearest mass vaccination centre we will add your name to our list should further appointments become available at short notice."“Five of our mass vaccination centres have COVID-19 vaccination appointments available today and tomorrow (Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th May for people aged over 30:

• United Counties Showground, Carmarthen (drive through)

• Halliwell Conference Centre, University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Carmarthen

“If you are aged 30 and over and are able to attend one of these centres at short notice to receive your first COVID-19 vaccine, please phone the health board as soon as possible to request an appointment on 0300 303 8322. Please do not attend a centre without contacting us first.”Several over 40s complained on social media saying they had not yet received a vaccine appointment with the health board now opening vaccines up to over 30s.Hywel Dda has said that letters have now been posted to people aged 40 to 49 in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, and Pembrokeshire and that age group should have received their vaccine invitations over the weekend.
