OVER 4,500 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded across Wales along with eight deaths, according to the latest figures.

The latest data released this lunch time by Public Health Wales covers a 48 hour period up to 9am on Sunday and shows that 4,543 new cases were recorded across Wales during that time.

The data does not specify however how many cases are of from the Omicron variant.

Health Minister Eluned Morgan told Sky News earlier today that one person is in hospital in Wales with the Omicron variant and that there are 15 cases of the variant confirmed in Wales.

Omicron cases have been confirmed in the Hywel Dda and Betsi Cadwaladr regions.

The numbers today show that Ceredigion has recorded 76 new cases of Covid-19 with Carmarthenshire recording 224 new cases and Pembrokeshire, 169.

176 new cases have been recorded in Gwynedd while Powys has recorded 156.

Eight deaths have been recorded across Wales with a total of 6,489 deaths being attributed to Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.

618 have been recorded in the Hywel Dda region of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire with Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board in north Wales recording 1,117 deaths.

86 deaths have been recorded in Powys.
