A CONSULTATION into the potential closure of Aberystwyth’s Bodlondeb care home should be delayed to ensure everyone in the Aberystwyth area is able to receive a consultation document, a campaigner has demanded.

Dai Thomas, a member of the Save Bodlondeb campaign group, made the request in a letter to the Cambrian News, but the council has said it will not alter the 25 September closing date for consultation responses.

Mr Thomas was unhappy that he has been unable to arrange to receive 1,000 consultation documents to be able to distribute them to interested parties in the Aberystwyth catchment area and questioned whether local residents had the opportunity to receive the consultation document.

In his letter, Mr Thomas said: “I ask that Bronwen Morgan delays the consultation so that every ratepayer can have the opportunity to give their views.”

Mr Thomas said he had applied to the council for 1,000 of the consultation documents so they could be distributed to people throughout the area, instead of those people having to get the document through the council, with Mr Thomas concerned about whether there are enough of the documents available for all interested parties.

But that request has not been taken up and Mr Thomas questioned whether that would affect the number of people who respond to the consultation after a previous consultation into the home’s future saw just 168 residents take part.
