Gwynedd has recorded over 20 new cases of coronavirus today, according to official figures.
All major operations have been cancelled at Gwynedd’s largest hospital following confirmation earlier this week of a Covid-19 outbreak in five of Ysbyty Gwynedd’s wards.
Daily figures, released this lunchtime by Public Health Wales, reveal that Gwynedd has today recorded 23 new cases of the virus.
Ceredigion has recorded four new cases with Carmarthenshire recording 20 and Pembrokeshire, five.
Powys has recorded 17 new cases today.
Rolling seven-day figures, which cover the period 15 to 21 February show that Ceredigion has the lowest rate of infection in Wales with 31.6 cases per 100,000 population after recording 23 cases over that time period.
Anglesey had the highest rate of infection over that time period after recording 76 new cases taking the rate to 108.5 cases.
Gwynedd recorded 106 cases and its rate of infection stands at 85.1.
Powys recorded 114 cases over the seven-day period leaving it with a rate of infection of 86.1.
Carmarthenshire recorded 134 new cases between 15-21 February leaving it with a rate of 71.0 and Pembrokeshire recording 60 cases, leaving it with a rate of 47.7.
The Welsh national rate of infection is currently 75 cases per 100,000.
16 deaths have been recorded today in Wales, taking the total number of Covid-19 related fatalities to 5,300.
Of those deaths, 872 have been recorded in the Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board area of North Wales, while Hywel Dda, which covers Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire has recorded 450 deaths.
Powys Health Board has recorded 58 deaths in total.
The Office for National Statistics has compiled data from each health board area in Wales where Covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate and these figures are much higher for each areas, with 1,230 deaths recorded in the Betsi Cadwaladr area, 647 in Hywel Dda and 224 in Powys.
Speaking this lunchtime, NHS Wales’ chief executive, Andrew Goodall and chief medical officer Frank Atherton stated that one million people in Wales will have received the vaccine by the end of this weekend and confirmed that 40 to 49-year-olds will be the next group to receive the jab once the over-50s have received theirs by mid April.
