MACHYNLLETH residents have been urged to respond to a consultation over day care services in Powys, as town councillors insist the service provided is a “lifeline”.
A consultation is currently ongoing into potential changes to day care services, including the service provided by Cross Roads in Machynlleth, as Powys County Council looks to make spending cuts. The consultation runs until 9 November.
While Machynlleth Town Council has agreed to strongly object to any effort to reduce or cut the service in the town, councillors said it was also vital that members of the public showed their opposition to any potential cut and they urged residents to show their backing for the current service to be retained as it is and potentially even improved.
Cllr Michael Williams said: “It is important that people reply to this consultation so that this facility remains in Machynlleth. It’s so important that we as a town council make our views known as well. It’s important we don’t lose this service. Let us organise and ensure that we keep this service in Machynlleth.”
Cllr Sylvia Rowlands added: “This is a lifeline to some people and it’s the only way they get out of the house.”
The consultation document is available on Powys Council’s website as well as in libraries in the county, but letters can also be sent to the council to Day Time Activities Consultation, Communications Team, County Hall, Llandrindod Wells, Powys LD1 5LG.
