ONE class at a Gwynedd school has been asked to self-isolate after a member of staff testing positive for coronavirus.
In a statement this evening, Gwynedd Council confirmed that a member of staff at Ysgol Syr Huw Owen in Caernarfon has tested positive for Covid-19.
The spokesperson added: “We are following Public Health Wales advice and parents have been informed that any children who are contacts with the individual will be required to self-isolate for 14 days as a precautionary measure.
“Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen has been following a stringent hygiene process and will continue to do so, as well as other measures to reduce as much contact as possible between groups of pupils.
“One class will be required to self-isolate as well as some individual pupils who have been identified as having had contact with the staff member. All families have been informed.
“The school has acted as quickly as possible to inform parents of the position and will be working closely with the local Test, Trace and Protect service to provide information to families.
“We send our best wishes to the member of staff and urge those who will be contacted by the Test, Trace and Protect service to follow the advice provided for the safety of your family and your local community.
“The rest of the school will remain open and pupils and staff are advised to continue attending school, unless they show any symptoms of coronavirus.”
Those families whose children have been asked to self-isolate are also advised to look out for any symptoms of the virus, including:
• a new continuous cough;
• a high temperature;
• loss of or change to sense of smell or taste.
Anyone who develops any Coronavirus symptoms should isolate and immediately request a test by calling 119 or online by visiting https://gov.wales/apply-coronavirus-covid-19-test
